Fresh from launching his Editions group, boutique hotel king Ian Schrager has opened the first property of new, more affordable hotel chain in the US. Working with interior designer Anda Andrei, he has completely overhauled the Ambassador East hotel, built in 1926, whose famous Pump Room restaurant was frequented by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and John F Kennedy. The new hotel’s 285 rooms, are classic, clean and comfortable - ‘we are not trying to be hip - in fact we are anti-hip,’ says Schrager - and start from a modest $135 a night.

Dior reds: The House of Dior appreciates a good red nail polish so much that it has released a trio of reds inspired by cornerstones of its sartorial history. In a sophisticated demonstration of colour theory, the fashion house has honed in on the brick red shade, Icone, in tribute to the shade of Christian Dior’s Atout Coeur dress circa 1955, a bright orange-tinged red named Trafalgar - a nod to Dior’s tactic (Coup de Trafalgar) of punctuating his runway presentations with a dramatic red look - and a chic, seductive crimson that echoes the powerful sophistication of René Gruau’s illustrations.

Architect Daniel Libeskind’s trio of new projects
Run Run Shaw, pioneering film studio chief and one of Hong Kong’s most famous sons, would have applauded Libeskind’s energetic design for the eponymous Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre. Located in the City University of Hong Kong, the 263,000 sq ft building brings together under one roof the new-media, film, design, and photography departments.
