✖Kanye West at Raspoutine #2
“It’s very me—but it’s my romantic part,” says Riccardo Tisci of his Spring 2012 collection for Givenchy. After the powerful Amanda Lear sirens that stalked his runway last season—not to mention those dramatic photomontage prints that spawned a myriad of imitators in the resort collections and have continued to bloom unchecked on an infinite number of runways this spring—Tisci himself has indeed moved on, as great creative spirits do. Now he’s thinking “light and fluid and languid,” and he’s concocted a romance between a surfer and a mermaid for his narrative. On his inspiration board: shark’s teeth; thirties Hawaiian surfers; a painting of Victorian sirens luring hapless sailors to the watery depths; a seascape in the late-day mist, sunlight dappling the water with a thousand lights. Elements of each of these images have found their way into the collection—in the curve of a seam, or the seafoam froth of a ruffle, or the twinkle of a sequin.
We love the leather skirt!
